"Forensic evidence showed that the guerrillas who they were supposedly chasing after a confrontation that took place on Colombian territory were sleeping – dressed in pajamas, even – when the attack took place, and therefore, what took place at Santa Rosa de Sucumbíos was not a battle but a plain and simple slaughter.  This operation, carried out shortly after midnight on March 1st, 2008, occurred with the logistic and material support of  U.S. Americans housed at the Manta airbase in Ecuador, the only people with the aircraft and technology capable of the astonishingly accurate bombing of the jungle in the absolute dead of night." - Machetera "Ecuadorian president Rafael Correa noted that some of the bodies had been found to be shot from behind." - Wikipedia

Five years after the bombing in the town of Sucumbios (northern Ecuador), by the Colombian government, FARC demanded on Friday the remains of the former guerrilla commander Raul Reyes.

The Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC) on Friday demanded the return of the remains of the former head of the insurgency Raul Reyes, killed March 1, 2008 in a Colombian Army raid a clandestine guerrilla settlement in Ecuadorian territory.

The guerrilla Ivan Marquez, who heads the FARC delegation in peace talks with representatives of the government of Juan Manuel Santos, described as unhealthy and degrading hostages still keep the remains of Reyes.

"We denounce the perfidy that represents this cruel and inhumane act of the State and noted as mortal scavenger Gen. Rodolfo Palomino of the National Police, now in charge of the traffic police," said the insurgency in a statement read by Marquez.

As indicated in the text, requested the Government of Ecuador, based on rules of international humanitarian law, the repatriation of the remains of combatants to their friends and family to bury him.

Marquez recalled that in March 2008 the Colombian government forces bombed a camp in Ecuadorian territory clandestine FARC, "violating international law and the sovereignty of a country," and killed Reyes.

In 2009 the National Police of Bogotá received and buried the body of Raul Reyes in a grave state secret, despite having been claimed by his former wife after the attack, arguing that relatives did not meet the legal requirements for the right to the body.

The bombings were led by the former Minister of Defense and current president of Colombia, Juan Manuel Santos, former chief of the Armed Forces and former commander Oscar Naranjo Mario Montoya Army.

In addition to Reyes attacks killed 20 fighters of the FARC guards, four Mexican students and an Ecuadorian citizen.

Half a decade of impunity

Five years after the events the Parents and Relatives of Victims of Sucumbios (northern Ecuador), the Mexican League for the Defense of Human Rights Foundation and the Regional Human Rights Advisory remember the case and seek justice.

"We will have different activities for memory and justice, but also announced that five years of slaughter are now parents and relatives who are in Ecuador to raise their voice and ask for legal investigations run their course and the guilty are punished, "he added.

The organizations expressed concern that the Mexican president, Enrique Peña Nieto, like the official advice, public security, General Oscar Naranjo Trujillo, who in 2008 held the position of director of the National Police of Colombia.

"We are concerned that (Peña Nieto) you want to export to Mexico Colombian security model, a model of violence, war and death left deep wounds in that sister nation, with thousands of extrajudicial killings and disappearances," they said.
